How to Propagate Yucca
Yucca elephantipes · Also called Spineless Yucca
| Methods | Stem cutting, cane cutting, offsets |
| Difficulty | Beginner |
| Best season | Spring–summer |
| Time to root | 4–8 weeks |
| Group | Houseplant |
Yucca is commonly sold as a bare cane with a tuft of leaves at top, similar to corn plant and dragon tree, and it propagates the same way. Bare cane sections planted in soil reliably sprout new growth from dormant buds.
Cane cutting
Cut leafless cane sections, plant upright or on their side in moist, well-draining mix.
Offsets
Remove any pups forming at the base with a clean cut; let dry, then pot.
When to propagate
Spring through summer.
Common problems
No sprouting for weeks. Normal for this genus — check the cane is still firm, not soft.
Questions people ask
