Strawberries propagate themselves naturally through runners — long stems that extend outward and form baby plants at their tips. The only job is pinning a runner’s baby plant to soil until it roots, then cutting it free.
Offsets (runners)
- Find a runner extending from the parent plant with a small plantlet at the end.
- Pin the plantlet against soil (in the ground or a small pot) with a hairpin.
- Keep it moist. Roots form in 2–4 weeks.
- Cut the runner connecting it to the parent once established.
Division
Established crowns can also be dug up and divided at the roots in early spring or fall.

Common problems
Plantlet didn’t root. Poor soil contact — press it down firmly and keep consistently moist.
