Not a true palm, this plant occasionally produces offset “pups” at its base, especially on older, mature specimens. Only remove a pup once it has noticeably swollen at its own base, which indicates it’s forming its own water-storing trunk and root system.
Offsets
- Once a pup has a visibly swollen base of its own, separate it with a clean cut, keeping any roots it has.
- Let the cut dry 2–3 days.
- Pot in dry, well-draining mix; don’t water for a week.
