How to Propagate Croton

Croton is slower and less forgiving than most houseplant cuttings. Bleeding milky sap needs to stop before the cutting goes into soil, and consistent warmth and humidity matter more here than with easier plants.
Stem cutting
- Cut a 5–6 inch tip section.
- Blot the sap until it stops.
- Dip in rooting hormone.
- Insert into moist, well-draining mix; cover for humidity.
Air layering
Reliable alternative for a mature plant — wound the stem, wrap in damp moss and plastic, wait 6–8 weeks.
