| Best season | Spring–summer |
| Time to root | 2–4 weeks |
| Group | Houseplant |
This plant is famous for sending up baby plants from its roots, sometimes right through the soil surface, sometimes on the main stem. Both kinds of pups can be removed and rooted separately.
Offsets
- For soil-emerging pups: gently dig around the base and separate the pup with some roots attached, or cut it from the connecting root if needed.
- For stem pups: cut them off close to the stem.
- Root either type in water or moist soil.
When to propagate
Spring and summer, or whenever pups appear.
Common problems
Stem pup won’t root. Try water first — it’s the more reliable method for pups without their own roots yet.
Questions people ask
Why does my plant keep making so many babies? It’s a natural, prolific habit of this species — happy, established plants often produce pups continuously.
