Tropical hibiscus roots reasonably well from cuttings with warmth and humidity. Remove flower buds from the cutting — they divert energy away from root formation.
Stem cutting
- Cut a 4–5 inch non-flowering tip; remove any buds.
- Dip in rooting hormone.
- Insert into moist, well-draining mix; cover for humidity.
Air layering
Works well on established plants — wound, wrap in damp moss, wait 4–6 weeks.

Spring through summer, in warmth.
