Fuchsia spp.

Methods Stem cutting
Difficulty Intermediate
Best season Spring–summer
Time to root 3–4 weeks
Group Outdoor / garden

Fuchsia roots readily from soft new growth. Non-flowering tip cuttings root faster and more reliably than cuttings taken from flowering stems, which divert energy to blooms instead of roots.

Stem cutting

  1. Cut a 3–4 inch non-flowering tip.
  2. Remove lower leaves and any flower buds.
  3. Insert into moist, well-draining mix.
  4. Bright indirect light, cover for humidity.

When to propagate

Spring through summer.

Common problems

Cutting wilted. Low humidity — use a plastic cover initially.

Questions people ask
