Pepper cuttings root more slowly and less reliably than tomato, but it works. Take cuttings from healthy, non-flowering side shoots and be patient — this is genuinely slower than most vegetable-garden cuttings.
Stem cutting
- Cut a 4-inch non-flowering side shoot.
- Remove lower leaves and any flower buds.
- Insert into moist, well-draining mix.
- Keep humid with a loose cover.
Growing from seed
The more common method — sow indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost.
When to propagate
Spring through summer.
Common problems
Cutting wilted and didn’t root. Low humidity — use a plastic cover and be patient; peppers root slower than tomatoes.
