Many peperomia species regrow from a single leaf, similar to succulents — the leaf plus its short stalk (petiole) is what roots, not the flat blade alone.
Leaf cutting
- Cut a leaf with its stalk intact.
- Insert the stalk into moist, well-draining mix, or lay trailing-type leaves flat on the surface.
- Bright indirect light, keep lightly moist.
Stem cutting
For trailing types, cut a stem section below a node and root in water or soil.
Water propagation
Leaf cuttings with their stalks, and stem sections, both root in water. Rest the stalk or bare node in a shallow glass so no leaf blade sits below the surface, keep in bright indirect light, and change the water weekly. Pot into well-draining mix once roots reach about an inch.
When to propagate
Spring through summer.
Common problems
Leaf rotted. Too wet — let the mix dry slightly between waterings.
