Unlike most rosette succulents, Aeonium grows on a visible stem, and cuttings are taken from that stem rather than leaves. The rosette must include a short length of stem below it — a rosette cut flush at the base often fails to root.
Stem cutting
- Cut a rosette with 1–2 inches of stem attached.
- Let it dry and callus for 3–5 days — longer than most succulents, since the stem is thicker.
- Insert the bare stem into dry succulent mix.
- Water sparingly until roots establish.
